MCC joins Cycad's tree planting

Members of the Montalban Cycling Club (MCC) joined Cycad's (Cycling Adventures and Advocates) tree planting activity at a Dumagat community in Karahume, San Isidro, San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan last September 25, 2010. This place was chosen because the indigenous community, owner of a certificate of ancestral domain title, are active land stewards who take care of the watersheds in their domain.

This activity comes in remembrance of the widespread destructive flood caused by typhoon Ondoy in Metro Manila and its environs one year ago.

The participants had a unique combination of experiences as we pedaled our way to the activity site. From UP Diliman, we cycled at a controlled pace up to Igay, San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan. From there we climbed the lung-busting Igay Road for an hour. The we pedaled on rough roads going into the community.

From there, we hiked along a creek toward the watershed, where we planted 90 seedlings of hardwood trees.

We lunched at a waterfall, cooking rice on bamboos. And then it rained! On us and on our food. We trekked back to the community under heavy rains, dripping wet after sweating dry.

We went home via the Macabud, Montalban, muddied all the way traversing the rough roads of Montalban.
