Montalban cyclists ride to Isabela

For our Holy Week ride this year, sixteen Montalban Cycling Club members pedaled 430 kilometers in a three-day ride from Montalban (Rodriguez), Rizal to Santiago and Gamu towns in Isabela.

On Holy Thursday, we covered about 230 kms. from Montalban, Rizal up to Sta. Fe, the first town of the Nueva Viscaya province. We started pedaling at 4AM, aided by our night lights.  we reached San Luis, Nueva Ecija at 1PM. Our afternoon was spent on climbing the 50+ kms. of rolling terrain of Carranglan, Nueva Ecija, leading up to the top of the Dalton Pass.

Climbing Dalton Pass proved to be the most challenging part of our route. The last 10 kilometers leading up to the top of Dalton Pass is uphill all the way.

As planned, we rested on the lone hotel in Santa Fe.

The next day, we covered about 120 kilometers from Santa Fe up to Santiago City, Isabela. Starting at 4:30AM, we reached Santiago at 11:30AM. We made another major climb on Diyadi, last town of Nueva Vizcaya, before entering the province of Isabela.

On Day 3, we biked to our second destination about 80 kms. away.  Leaving Santiago City at 5AM, we arrived in Gamu, Isabela, at 10AM.

Nueva Vizcaya and Isabela have good roads, and combined by sparse traffic from here on, made our progress smooth and fast.

Mobile signal along the road, however, is intermittent, mostly centered around urban centers. Updating one’s FB status, therefore, had to wait.
