Cyclists remember Ondoy, plant trees

From MCC Tree Planting

A hundred cyclists from Montalban Cycling Club, EASI Bikers and CYCAD biked, hiked and planted 200 tree seedlings in Bundok ng Bituin, Bgy. Macabud, Rodriguez, Rizal yesterday.

The group assembled at Rodriguez town hall. At 7AM, we pedaled toward the tree planting area. Almost three hours later, we reached Bgy. Macabud. We hiked up for about a kilometer toward the mountain ridge called Bundok ng Bituin. There, in 360-degree view of the plains and mountains around us, we planted our tree seedlings.

The Montalban Cycling Club organized this tree planting activity in remembrance of the second year of Ondoy's devastation, including the plains of Rodriguez, Rizal. This activity is our small contribution in preventing another Ondoy-like disaster in particular, and in mitigating climate change in general.

MCC thanks the offices, organizations and friends who supported and made this activity a success.

To the office of the Mayor of Rodriguez, Rizal, who facilitated our introduction to MENRO and to the Clean and Green team. To the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources head (Mrs. Julieta Teschner) and staff who provided us 200 tree seedlings, located a planting site for us, and answered our many questions about tree planting. To the Clean and Green team who provided us a vehicle to transport the seedlings.

To Macabud Councilor Amang Catayoc, who graciously offered his land as the tree planting area, and helped us in the actual tree planting. To Macabud Barangay Captain Judith Gandia, who provided us an ambulance in case of a medical emergency, and barangay security officers who helped guard our bikes.

To EASI Bikers and CYCAD, who joined us in this activity.

Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat!
