From Bits n Pieces |
Just last week, bikes lanes were placed on both sides of J.P. Rizal Ave. / Gen. Luna Ave. / MH del Pilar St., a national road traversing Montalban. Both the towns of Montalban and San Mateo were provided with these new bike lanes along Gen. Luna Ave. / J.P. Rizal Ave.
We hope that bike lanes will also be placed on the Montalban Highway.
These bike lanes were a very welcome development indeed, as the Montalban Cycling Club had been requesting for such in the past few years.
With these bike lanes, cycling has become safer both for cyclists and drivers. Cyclists now have a lane of their own, and need not compete with drivers for the use of the road.
And with these bike lanes, Montalban has become nearer to becoming a bike-friendly municipality. Although there's still much that need to be done to really make Montalban a bike-friendly place.
There really is a need to make Montalban a more bike-friendly place. A significant number of residents use bicycles to go around, as their primary mode of conveyance to and from work, and as their form of exercise. Bike-related amenities, like bike racks in establishments, are much needed.
Also, because of Montalban's challenging terrain, many cyclists, expecially mountain bikers, from near and far, regularly visit Montalban and follow its bike trails. Developing bike-related amenities to serve their needs will surely attract more cyclists to visit Montalban more often.
We hope that the development of these bike lanes with signal the start of Montalban becoming a more bike-friendly town.
